Note: this is the same weekend as the Wolf Run, the GMEA Solo and Ensemble, and the High School spring play, Taming of the Shrew. Come and shop at the Artist Market before or after these other events!

Joie de Vivre is almost here! Celebrate the “joy of life” through the arts at the 2008 Wesleyan Artist Market, featuring over 50 artists from all over Atlanta and the region. Their work ranges from paintings to jewelry to ceramics to photography and more. There’s a wide variety of art offered and something affordable for every taste. Come shop for yourself or for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Graduation, and summer birthdays. 

The Artist Market is sponsored by the Arts Alliance, and 25% of purchases are tax deductible.

Thursday Night 6-9:00 pm Joie et Chocolat!

Be among the first to see the compelling array of new artist and gift market items. Enjoy the Jazz sounds of J-Moods, chocolate treats and culinary delights. A Silent Auction will be open the entire weekend.

Bobbie Lencke’s retirement reception will also be part of the celebration Thursday night. Come and help us thank Bobbie for her years of service and dedication to our school.

This year, we’re excited to announce that “literary artists” will be joining us too! These six authors will be doing a book signing sponsored by Barnes and Noble on Friday from 3:00-5:00:

  • Sandra Chastain, author of Kaseybelle, the Tiniest Fairy in the Kingdom, the first in a children’s book series called Everyone is Special;
  • Jackie K. Cooper, author of Journey of a Gentle Southern Man, Chances and Choices, Halfway Home; The Bookbinder;
  • W. Dale Cramer, author of 2006 Christy Award novel Levi’s Will and acclaimed novels Sutter’s Cross and Bad Ground;
  • Wesleyan’s own Colin Creel, author of Crossroads: Navigating Your Calling and Career and Perspectives: A Spiritual Life Guide for Twentysomethings;
  • Wesleyan’s own Patti Callahan Henry, author of Where the River Runs, When Light Breaks, Between the Tides, The Art of Keeping Secrets (coming June 2008);
  • Milam McGraw Propst, author of A Flower Blooms on Charlotte Street, which won the national Parent’s Choice award (and was later turned into the movie The Adventures of Ociee Nash) as well as Ociee on Her Own and Creola’s Moonbeam.

After the book signing, The Deliverymen will perform from 5:00 pm – 7:00 so you can enjoy great music as you browse the Artist Market.

Also on Saturday, from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm, we’ll have Binders’ Kids' Pavilion sponsored by Binders' Art Supply and box lunches available from the Varsity. Let your kids be artists while you shop at the Artist Market. Throughout the day, we’ll also have music and dance performances from community groups like Refuge Dance Company, Georgia Youth Choir, and The Perimeter Academy of Ballet.

Student Original Art purchases may be picked up at the Market during Friday and Saturday hours. Snacks may be purchased at Concessions Friday and Saturday.
